Q&A: Computer Crashes At Startup!?

Question by Computer Geek G: Computer Crashes At Startup!?
Hi guys, I’m new to this website and I just have 1 question. My computer currently has a virus from visiting “websites” and when I turn on and off my computer, something’s gone super wrong! That is….. when I go to my account, my taskbar goes on and off for about 2-4 seconds each. While this is doing it, my wallpaper changes too! It changes from wallpaper, then “restore desktop” to a blue screen which I can’t figure out! So that’s my problem, thanks yahoo users! P.S. this started to happen when I got the virus.

restart your computer in safe mode by pressing f8 once per second during the start up as soon as you hit the power. From there you can run scans and other things. If it wont load that then reformat your computer and start over.

Edited: You can also try to run a system restore from safe mode to see if that fixes your issues.

If it is a virus then I am not sure if MSConfig will help here as it will stop the virus if it is running as a service but not if it is just waiting in the registry for start up.

ok do the f8 thingy in safe mode, but once in safe monde go to start, run, msconfig(and disable all non-microsoft, non-virus protection services), and disable all non-nessarry startup items in the startup group than restart normally…to see if that fixed it.
Also run antivirus(aka avg or something), also spybot be nice… also backup crutial data(word documents and whatever you need) before it gets worse…
