how to find money for a startup?

Question by crazydutch_man: how to find money for a startup?
I have an idea for a computer program that i have yet to see anywhere. I have very little knowledge about programming but I assume that because of the complexity of the idea and purpose the time and programming needed is vast. Since the time/programming needed is great it will take a lot of money to pay a freelance programmer to program it.

Now my question is, how do small companies raise or get money in order to get their businesses off the ground? Ive heard of crowd funding websites but they dislike the use of using their website by means to pay programmers. What are some things people have done besides the usual “asking family members” or “getting a business loan”? is there some stuff that I have yet to find doing research or have even heard of?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

You could offer the freelancer a royalty percentage, plus a cash retainer of however much you can afford. Basically what the royalty percentage would mean is the freelancer would get that percent of each and every sale of the software sold. So if the royalty was 10% for example (standard is between 2% and 15%) and you sold each copy for $ 20 then you would pay the freelancer $ 2 from each sale. Make sense?

That’s how Facebook was made.
